Funeral Arrangements for Det. William Macioci (Ret.)

Chief Anthony Pesare and the men and women of the Middletown Police Dept. are saddened to announce the unexpected and sudden passing of retired Middletown Police Detective William Macioci.  Detective Macioci was 58 years old at the time of his passing.

Detective Macioci retired in 2010 after 22 years of dedicated police service.  Detective Macioci served the last several years of his career as a narcotics investigator and was assigned to the DEA as a Task Force Officer.

Detective Macioci along with retired Deputy Chief Steve Cofield of the Portsmouth Police Dept. started the Police Motorcycle Operator Training Course in the State of Rhode Island.  Detective Macioci’s passion for motorcycles is responsible for the training and certification of numerous police motorcycle operators in the state.

A wake will be held for Detective Macioci on Thurdsay, June 21st, at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home at 465 Spring Street in Newport from 1600-1900 hours.  There will be a law enforcement walk-thru at the wake at 1700 hours.   Any Officer wishing to participate in the walk-thru are asked to gather outside of the funeral home at Spring St. and Lee Ave. by 1645 hours.

The funeral for Detective Macioci will be Friday, June 22nd, at Jesus Savior Church at 509 Broadway in Newport at 0900 hours.  The funeral will consist of a church service only.

Because of Detective Macioci’s involvement with police motorcycles, the family of Detective Macioci and the Middletown Police Department would like to have as many departments as possible represented on motorcycles for the short precession.  Any department able to send a motorcycles to the service are asked to have the motorcycles to the O’Neill-Hayes funeral home at 0745 hours on Friday, June 22nd.  The Newport Police Department will have no parking on Spring St. in the area of the funeral home leaving on street parking available for participating motorcycles.

Uniform for Middletown Police Officers will be uniform of the day with long sleeve shirt and tie.
