MIDDLETOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES AAA TRAFFIC SAFETY AWARDS

 

On Thursday, November 2, 2017 the Middletown Police Department received the Silver Traffic Safety Award for 2016 from AAA Northeast.  This award recognized the efforts of the police department to increase the safety of the nearly 40,000 motorist that travel through Middletown on a daily basis.  The departments program aimed to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents and speeding motorist which contribute to these accidents. The department used a combination of enforcement techniques which included, the education of driver’s media outlets and message boards, traffic safety grants, aggressive DUI patrols and seatbelt grants.

Sgt. Clifford McGregor was also awarded the Traffic Safety Hero of the Year award. Sgt. McGregor was responsible for obtaining a grant and implementing strategies to combat Distracted Driving. Through Sgt. McGregor’s efforts, the department was able to reduce the number of rear end collisions at intersections.
