TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS FOR TRI-NEWPORT TRIATHLON SEPTEMBER 10, 2017
MIDDLETOWN, R.I., On Sunday, September 10, 2017 the Tri-Newport Triathlon takes place in Middletown and Portsmouth. The triathlon will start at approximately 0700 hrs and will end around 0930 hrs. In order to accommodate the individuals participating in the Triathlon, the Middletown Police Department will provide traffic control on several street locations in conjunction with the race.
The ¼ mile swim portion of the triathlon will take place at Second Beach. The course for the bicycle portion of the race is as follows: Participants will exit the main parking lot of Second Beach and head west on Sachuest Point Road, bearing right on Paradise Avenue. They will continue through the intersection of Paradise Avenue and Green End Avenue on to Berkeley Avenue before taking a right onto Wyatt Road. At the end of Wyatt Road, cyclists will turn left onto Mitchell’s Lane. They will enter East Main Road and turn right on East Main Road, cross into Portsmouth and then right onto Bramans Lane. They will re-enter Middletown traveling south on Wapping Road and then turn left onto Old Mill Lane and back into Portsmouth. They will again re-enter Middletown traveling south on Indian Avenue. They will cross the intersection of Indian Avenue and Third Beach Road to head west on Hanging Rock Road. They will then turn left on Sachuest Point Road and enter the main lot of Second Beach where they will transition to the running portion of the triathlon.
The third leg of the triathlon will have the runners exit the main lot of Second Beach and turn left onto Sachuest Point Road. They will turn right onto Hanging Rock Road running north and then right onto Third Beach Road. They will bear right at the triangle before taking a left onto Sachuest Point Road. The runners will turn around at the entrance to Sachuest Point and head west back to the main lot of Second Beach where the race will finish.
The Middletown Police Department requests that motorists use care when driving in the area on race day.
