TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS FOR BIKE TO THE BEACH FOR AUTISM
MIDDLETOWN, R.I., The Bike to the Beach for Autism cycling event will take place on Saturday, September 2, 2017. This event will begin in Boston, Massachusetts and end in Newport, Rhode Island. Cyclists should be passing through the Town of Middletown at approximately 12:15 PM. Riders are expected to pass through Middletown in no more than two hours.
Route: Cyclists will travel south on Indian Avenue, coming from Old Mill Lane in Portsmouth. They will continue onto Hanging Rock Road, turn right at the end of Hanging Rock Road and travel pass the beach. Cyclists will continue onto Purgatory Road. They will then turn left onto RI-138A and travel into Newport, Rhode Island.
Bike to the Beach hosts rest stops every 10-15 miles where riders are given water and food. Along the route, Bike to the Beach has 5-10 chase vehicles with food, water and other needed supplies to assist cyclists whenever necessary. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM. If motorists do travel through this area, during this time, they are asked to proceed with caution.
